Texas Native Pollinator Plant Guide
Pollinators are essential not only to the country’s food sovereignty and agricultural economy, but also to the survival of the unique and beautiful ecosystems found in Texas and beyond.
With pollinator populations steadily declining, I set out to create an accessible plant guide to support these vital ecosystem allies. Whether someone has a sprawling yard or just a couple of well-draining pots, everyone can play a part in conservation.
Target Audience: Texas residents, students, educators, gardeners, and anyone interested in creating a pollinator-friendly space using native plants.

Reflection
I had a lot of fun selecting the plants to include in the guide and creating a flexible system for displaying information and images of each species. At times, though, I came across plants that fit letters I had already used and struggled to find solid options for others. For example, I had to do some problem solving and created a page about xeriscaping when I couldn’t find a relevant native plant for “X,” all while keeping the information relevant to the guide.
I also found myself writing extensively for each plant and had to cut content to focus on the most pertinent details. I was able to take photos of Turk’s Cap and Flame Acanthus based on plants in my own yard. In the future, I’d like to take more of my own photos for the guide.
All in all, this was a labor of love involving research, writing, editing, photography, and design.
